Municipal elections 2018: ISIE presents candidature guidebook
The candidature guidebook for the 2018 municipal elections was presented Tuesday at a press conference in Tunis.
Field central director at the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) Lotfi Ben Saad gave an overview of the legal framework organising the candidatures on the basis of the provisions of the Constitution, the organic laws related to the elections and the authority’s decisions.
The official reviewed the conditions of candidacy, such as the status of the voter, nationality and age, in addition to the conditions for magistrates, governors, delegates and secretaries-general of the governorates.
Regarding the lists, the document specifies that according to the electoral law, two lists must be proposed; an initial list and a complementary one.
These conditions also take into account the principle of parity between men and women and the rule of alternation. A candidate with a motor, visual or auditory handicap must also be present in the list.
The guide also includes the procedures for examining applications and decisions issued by the regional authorities in this regard.
Lotfi Ben Saad then spoke about the issue of the withdrawal of candidates and their replacement.
The candidatures guidebook is dedicated mainly to the ISIE sectoral bodies and executive system members, in addition to citizens, political parties, the media and civil society.
