Municipal elections 2018: people with disabilities head 18 electoral lists

Among the electoral lists running in the municipal elections there are 18 lists headed by people with disabilities (13 men and 5 women), the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) said at a press conference Thursday in Tunis.

According to statistics about heads of lists, of the 2074 electoral lists running in the next municipal elections, 30.33 pc are headed by women and 69.67 pc by men.

In the independent lists, the participation rate of men is 96.5 pc. The principle of parity was respected (50.5 pc of men and 49.9 of women).

In coalition lists, male participation reaches 51.5 pc and female participation is 49.4 pc.

Regarding the age of the candidates, the main finding is that 52 pc of the candidates have not yet reached the age of 35, 23.8 pc are between 36 and 45 years old, 19.6 pc of the candidates belong to the age group of 46-60 years and 4.4 pc are over 60 years old.

According to the ISIE, 53,668 candidates are on the lists, of whom 50.7 pc are men and 49.3 pc women.

In total, 2074 candidate lists in the municipal elections of May 6th were finally accepted after examination of the appeals.

These lists are distributed as follows: 1055 partisans, 159 coalition and 860 independent.
