Municipal elections 2018: “six party and independent lists will be represented in Tunis municipal council” (Mourakiboun)

Six party and independent lists will be represented at the Tunis Municipal Council, said Mourakiboun Network General Coordinator Rafik Halouani.

At a press conference on Monday on the preliminary results of the May 6 municipal elections, Rafik Halouani said the Tunis municipality has had the largest share of the network’s action because it is the largest municipality in Tunisia with 60 seats and 600 polling stations.

The technique of rapid vote counting was adopted for this municipality, added Mourakiboun who stated that the Ennahdha movement obtained 30.7 pc of the vote, the Nidaa Tounes movement 27.9 pc, the Democratic Current 11.9 pc and the Civil Union 9.6 pc.

As for the independent list “Madinati Tounes” (5th), it got 6.7 pc of the votes. The Popular Front (6th), meanwhile, obtained 6.2 pc, he added.

Rafik Halouani said parties and coalition and independent lists with less than 3% of the vote will not be represented on the municipal council.

He added once the final results of the elections announced on June 13 concerning the 60 members of the city council of Tunis, those members will elect the mayor of Tunis.

Souad Abderrahim, Kamel Idir, Ahmed Bouazzi, Mehdi Rebai, Mounir Ben Miled and Lotfi Ben Aissa are running for the presidency of the Tunis Municipal Council.
