Municipal elections : 2,068 lists approved, 106 invalidated (ISIE)

President of the Independent High Authority for Elections (French: ISIE) Mohamed Tlili Mansri said 2,068 lists in competition for municipal elections were approved, while 106 others were invalidated.

Legal challenges against ISIE’s invalidation decisions can be filed with the Administrative Court during one month starting from Saturday, March 3. Final lists will be released on April 4 at the latest, Mohamed Tlili Mansri Saturday told a news conference.

Outlining preliminary results, the president of the election body said approved lists for next May 6 municipal elections account for 95.12% of the total number of lists, while invalidated lists stand at 4.88%.

Seven lists were considered inadmissible for failure to abide with the principle of horizontal parity at their head and 24 others for non-conformity of the number of candidates on the initial list with the number of seats in the constituency.

Twenty-one lists were rejected on the grounds of the lack of candidates aged under 35 on the initial or complementary list on the day of the submission of nominations and nineteen more for the absence of the qualified elector status.

Others were invalidated for failure to provide certified signature on nomination papers and for diffent reasons.

Mohamed Tlili Mansri said no list of Ennahdha movement was invalidated, while 5 of Nidaa Tounes were rejected.

Several lists of the Democratic Current, Machrou Tounes, Afek Tounes, EchaAb movement and the Free Destourian Party were rejected.

Thirty-nine party lists, 20 coalition lists and 47 independent lists were rejected, he further indicated.
