Municipal elections: Administration showed impartiality and neutrality (Baffoun)

The administration showed impartiality and neutrality in the receipt of nominations for the municipal elections, member of the Independent High Authority for Elections (French: ISIE) Nabil Baffoun said.

He told a news conference held Friday in Tunis to present statistics of this first phase there is need to keep on observing strict neutrality in the election campaign.

Administrative structures were under pressure with 56,000 candidates, Baffoun further said. The election body helped overcome some difficulties in a bid to ensure the integrity of elections.

Preliminary lists of candidates will be published next March 4 before any legal challenges are initiated. The deadline for the withdrawal of candidacies is extended until next March 29.

The final lists will be released on April 4, Baffoun indicated.
