Municipal elections: August 10 last day for voter registration

August 10 is the last day set by the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) for voter registration for the municipal elections that will be held on December 17, 2017.

The registration campaign started on June 19.

The total number of registrations has reached to date 5 million 800 thousand including 500 thousand new registrations and 300 thousand registrations in overseas constituencies who are not concerned with the municipal elections.

The extension of the registration period is not considered at the moment, ISIE Member Nabil Baffoun told TAP by phone.

The decision to extend the registration deadlines can only be taken by the ISIE at the last day of the campaign as was the case for the HPR elections in 2011 and the legislative and presidential elections in 2014, he pointed out, affirming that ISIE has done everything to mobilise citizens through innovative communication techniques.

ISIE will hold on Thursday a meeting with representatives of political parties and another meeting with the civil society to discuss the results of the voter registrations for the municipal elections.

The authority will also hold a press conference on August 11 to inform the public opinion about the progress of the electoral process.
