Municipal elections:League of Tunisian Women Voters reports several offenses, including continuation of election campaign

A preliminary report on the 2018 municipal elections drawn up by the League of Tunisian Women Voters (LET) published on Sunday revealed a number of problems encountered by observers, in addition to the low representation of women in polling stations and the continuation of the election campaign outside a polling station.

The league pointed out that its representatives had been delayed when certain polling stations had not been open till 11 a.m., such as that of Sousse Khezama. The polling station in Mdhila / Gafsa had remained closed until 10 a.m. before closing all polling stations in the region, said the same source.

The report emphasized the inability of observers to enter polling stations, in addition to conflicts of interest in polling stations and the violation of the principle of neutrality, which consists in appointing a president of the polling station at the Habib Bourguiba school in the district of Thala in Kasserine while her two brothers are candidates in two lists in the same constituency.

The league pointed out that a candidate registered on the Ennahda list has been carrying the observer card and circulating inside the polling station at the Dhiba school in Beja and talking with representatives of the same party list.

Another offense recorded by the LET concerning verbal violence on the part of an elector against the president of the polling station of the April 4, 1934 school in Oued Meliz and the non-display of voter lists in a number of polling stations in the El Mdhila in Gafsa, the Zaouiet Jdidi school in Nabeul and the Djerba Houmt Souk station.

The LET reported the presence of polling Institutes in Siliana and Ariana polling stations, saying that their representatives were forced to withdraw by security forces.

The league indicated that attempts to influence voters by one of the candidates in the electoral district of Thala at the polling station of the Henchi Hamem school in Thala and was called to leave the polling station.

Besides, a candidate on an independent list in the Ezzahra constituency in Ben Arous tried to influence voters in the Khaznadar school as being the director of this school and an MP had paid visits to the polling stations in Tataouine after having casted her vote.
