Day-to-day management of municipalities has been assigned to officers in charge of the secretariat general, under the supervision of the local governor, under Presidential Decree No. 2023-9 of March 8, 2023, published in the Official Gazette of the Tunisian Republic (JORT) Wednesday.

The Cabinet Meeting held Wednesday night examined this presidential decree, whose first article provides for dissolving all municipal councils and replacing them by “special delegations” until the next elections are held.

All provisions that are contrary to Presidential Decree-Law No. 2023-9 will be repealed, according to Article 3 of the Decree.

The last municipal elections were held on May 6, 2018 in 350 municipalities, in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Code.
