Nabdam: Madam Agnes Anamoo, the Nabdam District Chief Executive (DCE), has urged the newly formed Youth Parliament to hold duty bearers accountable to foster development in the region. She emphasized the role of the Youth Parliament in providing a platform for young individuals to actively participate in governance and decision-making processes. According to Ghana News Agency, the call to action was made during the inaugural ceremony of the Youth Parliament, which marks a significant collaboration between the National Youth Authority (NYA) and the District Assembly. This initiative, supported by the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) project, aims to empower the youth by involving them in local governance and ensuring leaders are held accountable for their actions. Madam Anamoo highlighted the importance of this first-ever youth parliament in the district, encouraging members to deliberate on pertinent issues that would benefit their peers and set a strong precedent for future youth parl iamentarians. "Let me also use this opportunity to challenge noble members of the first Parliament of the Nabdam District to leave behind a remarkable record," she stated, underscoring the potential impact of their contributions. Mr Francis Takyi-Koranten, the Upper East Regional Director of the NYA, also spoke at the event, noting the inauguration as a crucial step for youth engagement in shaping their futures. He envisioned a legacy of strong youth leadership and advocacy that would extend benefits to upcoming generations. Mr Peter Philosopher Atsina, the District Youth Director, and Mr Romeo Asina Abenaba, the Speaker of the Youth Parliament, both expressed their enthusiasm for the potential of this new platform. They highlighted the non-partisan nature of the Youth Parliament and its aim to bring community issues to the attention of decision-makers. The initiative has received widespread support from various stakeholders, including the management of the SOCO Project Fund and the Nabdam District Assembl y, who have been instrumental in providing the necessary resources and leadership training for the youth involved.
