The National Authority for the Prevention of Torture (INPT) warned against any attempt to get bogged down in chaos in Tunisia and to settle political scores out of the framework of law and legitimacy.
The INPT reacts to the decisions announced last Sunday by President Kais Saied to freeze the work of the Parliament for thirty days, dismiss the Prime Minister and take over the executive power.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Authority considers that the security and individual freedoms of all citizens is a red line that cannot be violated or sacrificed, whatever the reason.
The INPT also cautioned against “the dangers that can stem from a unilateral interpretation of Article 80 of the Constitution,” adding that the law is the only way to settle political disputes.
Besides, the authority called for preserving the gains of the revolution, respecting individual rights and freedoms, upholding the rule of law and completing the establishment of constitutional authorities.
