National Guard foils 21 attempts to cross Tunisian-Algerian borders illegally

National Guard units foiled 21 attempts to cross the Tunisian-Algerian borders illegally on Wednesday night.

Some 122 individuals of different sub-Saharan nationalities were arrested for residing in Tunisian territory without proper documentation, spokesperson for the National Guard’s General Directorate announced.

President Kais Saied, at a meeting of the National Security Council held Tuesday, had ordered urgent measures to put an end, as soon as possible, to the phenomenon of the massive influx of irregular migrants from sub-Saharan Africa to Tunisia.

Saied also highlighted that the persistent inflow of undocumented sub-Saharan migrants into Tunisia has resulted in an escalation of violence, criminal activity, and other reprehensible practices that contravene the law.
