The National Observatory for the Defence of the Civilian Character of the State has called for accelerating the opening of Chokri Belaid’s assassination case and identifying all those directly or indirectly involved in this «state crime.»
«The perpetrators of this crime must be prosecuted,” the Observatory said in a statement issued on Saturday, on the 9th commemoration of the assassination of politician, lawyer and leftist activist Chokri Belaid.
The Observatory stands with the Tunisian people in commemorating this painful event, the statement read, denouncing all forms of violence, tyranny and use of religion for political purposes.
The assassination of Chokri Belaid on February 6, 2013, plunged the country into a political crisis, unprecedented since the 2011 revolution, entailing the resignation of Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali.
The family of the deceased accuses Ennahdha, the party that was in power, of being responsible for the murder, which the movement denies.
