Native Doctor Jailed 15 Years for Sexual Assault on Minor.

Accra: A Gender-Based Violence Court has sentenced a 24-year-old native doctor, Emmanuel Charway, to 15 years in prison for engaging in sexual activity with an 11-year-old girl in Teshie, Accra. Charway, who was charged with defilement and threat of death, pleaded guilty. The court, presided over by Dora Eshun, convicted Charway based on his plea.

According to Ghana News Agency, Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, the prosecutor, stated that the complainant is the father of the victim and that Charway resides in Teshie. The incident occurred on March 20, 2024, when the victim was on her way home from school. She encountered Charway, who engaged her in a brief conversation and gave her GH?10.00 to buy him a Bel-cola drink and a biscuit.

The victim fulfilled Charway’s request and brought the items to him. Charway then lured her into his fetish room, locked the door, and had sexual intercourse with her. After the act, Charway offered the victim the drink and biscuit and threatened her, warning her not to disclose
the incident to anyone, including her parents, under the threat of death.

The victim, upon returning home, disclosed the ordeal to her father, who subsequently took her to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Nungua. There, a medical form was issued for her to receive examination and treatment at the hospital. A medical report was prepared and given to the complainant, which facilitated the police investigation leading to Charway’s arrest.
