Borae: Mr. Robert Boame, Oti Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has urged the youth of the Borae community in the Krachi Nchumuru District to actively engage in preserving Ghana's status as a beacon of democracy. In light of potential threats from violent extremist groups surrounding the region, he emphasized the necessity for citizens to prevent any violence during the forthcoming 2024 elections. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Boame, during a one-day engagement supported by the European Union, cautioned the youth to be wary of strangers offering gifts or job opportunities, as these could be tactics employed by extremist groups to recruit young people. He highlighted the risks associated with joining such groups, noting that these could compromise national security, lead to instability, corruption, under-development, and human rights violations. As the 2024 general elections approach, Mr. Boame advised the youth to maintain good conduct to ensure peace throughout t he electoral process. The youth program is part of a broader initiative aimed at raising awareness about the importance of maintaining peace during the elections and understanding the activities of violent extremist groups in the West African sub-region. Mr. Abass Yussif, Krachi Nchumuru District Director of the NCCE, also addressed the youth, urging them to view themselves as future leaders of Ghana. He advised against participation in actions that could harm the nation, particularly during political events. Mr. Yussif discouraged the carrying of weapons to political rallies and warned against behaviors that foster division, such as insulting political opponents, defacing party posters, and voting along tribal or ethnic lines.
