NCCE Tema Metro Launches Civic Education Clubs in Basic Schools

Tema: The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Tema Metropolitan Office has inaugurated civic education clubs for basic schools in the metropolis. The Civic Education Club initiative provides students with the opportunity to study the 1992 Constitution, along with their rights and privileges as children.

According to Ghana News Agency, the clubs were inaugurated at the SOS Hermann Gmeiner JHS and the Regular Baptists School. Executives were inducted into office, and copies of the 1992 Constitution were distributed. These two schools are part of five newly formed civic clubs in the Tema Metropolis, adding to the eight existing clubs already operating in the area.

Madam Gifty Agyeiwaa Badu, the Tema Metropolitan NCCE Director, explained that the formation of the clubs is an initiative aimed at encouraging the study of the 1992 Constitution. This effort is intended to broaden and deepen the youth’s understanding and knowledge of democracy and nation-building. Madam Badu emphasized the importance of students realizing their roles as future leaders and participating actively in consolidating Ghana’s democracy and national stability.

Furthermore, Madam Badu noted that the club would provide students with opportunities to contribute innovative ideas that could enhance their studies of the constitution and promote the club’s growth. To make the club more engaging, excursions to educational centers like the Kwame Nkrumah Museum and the Parliament House will be organized to further the understanding of the club’s mandate.

Miss Issabella Enimil, president of the Regular Baptise Civic Education Club, stated that the club would aid in understanding the constitution, their rights, and responsibilities as children, and how they can contribute to the country’s growth. Miss Nhyira Danso, president of the club at SOS Hermann Gmeiner JHS, highlighted that the club would provide opportunities to visit places that enhance their constitutional knowledge. She pledged to work diligently to make club meetings engaging to attract more peers.
