Nearly 400 candidates for legislative elections plan to join initiative “For the People’ Triumph”

The founding members of the initiative “For the People’s Triumph” said that nearly 400 candidates running for the December 17 legislative elections have expressed their will to join the initiative and approved its principles and guidelines.

At a press conference dedicated to the presentation of this initiative launched late in October, the founding members expressed on Wednesday support to nearly 132 candidates who have officially adopted this initiative.

The candidates are active in several vital sectors, such as health, economy and administration, they said.

Among the national figures who will represent the initiative in the next legislative elections are former President of the Bar Association Brahim Bouderbala, political activist Ahmed Chaftar and Secretary General of the Al-Baath party Othman Belhaj Omar.

The initiative will soon publish its electoral manifesto which includes its programme before the start of the electoral campaign on November 25.

Founding member and member of the former executive board of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) Mohamed Ali Boughdiri pointed out that this initiative is “open to all activists,” adding that the launch of this initiative is part of promoting the independence of national decision and sovereignty.

«The early legislative elections will end a decade marked by the collapse of most economic and social indicators in the country,» he said, recalling that the initiative is part of the process of the July 25, 2021.

Political activist, deputy and founding member of the initiative Mongi Rahoui indicated that national sovereignty is one of the most important principles of this initiative because “it is about sovereignty over natural resources, the national economy and the independence of the national decision-making.»

The goal of this initiative is to achieve the July 25, 2021 process, he pointed out, adding that the next elections will put an end to the state of exception that the country has witnessed for more than a year.

Political activist and founding member Slah Daoudi highlighted that this initiative will also participate in the elections of the council of regions.

The initiative “For the People’s Triumph” brings together political parties including the Al-Baath movement and the Democratic Current as well as trade unionists and human rights activists.

The signatories of the text of the initiative define it as a popular and horizontal framework, open to all Tunisians and to its multiple forces having faith in the process of December 17-July 25 which came to break definitively with the pre-2010 and pre-2021 systems. Its goal is to make a political, economic and social change and embark on the construction of a new Republic.

At economic level, the initiative places emphasis on a diversified, balanced, fair and inclusive economy based on equal opportunities and interaction between the public and private sectors.

The initiative defends Tunisia’s enlightened Arab-Muslim and African belonging, stressing the need for openness to the world. Its members defend the policy of non-alignment and are for the criminalisation of normalisation with Israel.
