NGOs call for initiating serious investigation into assault of minor in Sidi Hassine Sejoumi

Human rights organisations, on Monday, called for initiating a serious inquiry after the assault of a minor by police officers in Sidi Hassine Sejoumi and on reports about the suspicious death of a citizen in the same neighbourhood.
They also demanded in an open letter to the prosecutor at the Court of First Instance of Tunis 2 the arrest of officers who committed abuses and violated the physical integrity of the minor.
A video circulating on social media on Wednesday June 9 showed a minor (15 years) assaulted and stripped naked by police officers in the Sidi Hassine neighbourhood, before being taken to the police station and released the day after.
The signatory organisations say those police officers are a danger to the safety of citizens, given the abuses committed against a minor.
They said that these abuses constitute “a crime against humanity, given their orchestrated character” and are unprescriptable, under the Constitution and international treaties ratified by Tunisia.
Among the organisations signatories are the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights, the Tunisian League of Human Rights, Al Bawsala, the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women, the Tunisian Association for the Defence of Individual Liberties, the Tunisian Organisation against Torture, the International Organisation against Torture and over 30 other organisations.
