No acts of vandalism recorded on January 14

No act of vandalism was recorded during the night of Sunday, January 14, 2018, assured Monday spokesman for the Interior Ministry Khalifa Chibani.

Small groups of youths aged between 13 and 19 had, however, tried to stir up trouble in the neighbourhoods of Feriana (Kasserine), Sidi Ali Ben Aoun (Sidi Bouzid), West Kram (Tunisia), Ettadhamen (Ariana) and Douar Hicher (Manouba).

They had burned tires and threw stones at the security forces, according to the same source.

Chibani said some of them had tried in Sidi Ali Ben Aoun (Sidi Bouzid) to storm a warehouse belonging to the Tunisian Customs. Another group in Sidi Bouzid caused a temporary power outage in some parts of the city.

According to Chibani, after consultation with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, 41 persons had been arrested and taken into custody for involvement in looting, robbery, burglary and assault of public and private property in the past days.

“The security units in the Sousse region were able to recover a car stolen last night by individuals,” he concluded.

It is worth pointing out that a precarious calm has been restored on Monday in Feriana (governorate of Kasserine), after Sunday evening’s clashes between the police and young protesters.
