NPP Grassroots in Takoradi Concerned Over Internal Party Conflicts

Takoradi: Some members of the grassroots, polling station executives, and dedicated supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Takoradi constituency have expressed deep concern regarding recent developments within the party. They believe these issues threaten the party’s unity, discipline, and progress ahead of the 2028 elections.

According to Ghana News Agency, the concerns from the Takoradi constituency group are centered on a directive by the National Executives. This directive instructs all party members, including national executives, appointees, and grassroots members, to refrain from engaging the media on internal party matters. However, the group has observed that this directive is being violated, notably by Ernest Owusu Bempah, Deputy National Communications Director and a government appointee under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Richard Ababio Bosompim, leader of the Concerned Grassroots Member and Polling Station Executive Chair of the New Patriotic Party, stated in a statement to the Ghana News Agency that Owusu Bempah has continually made divisive and disrespectful remarks in the media, specifically targeting the 2024 Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Bosompim expressed disappointment that Owusu Bempah has not faced any questioning or sanctioning from the leadership, which he claims breeds suspicion and frustration within the party.

The statement highlighted concerns that Owusu Bempah’s conduct might undermine the unity required to prepare for the 2028 general elections. It emphasized the importance of leadership remembering Owusu Bempah’s history of creating division within political parties and the potential long-term consequences for the NPP if his actions are not addressed.

The statement urged the National Executives of the NPP to issue a formal communique within 24 hours, condemning Owusu Bempah’s inappropriate and divisive comments. It also called for immediate disciplinary action to serve as a deterrent and ensure that no member or appointee engages in unauthorized campaigns or public endorsements until the party officially authorizes campaign activities.
