Number of occupational accidents down in 1st 9 months of 2017 (CNAM)

The number of reported occupational accidents in the 1st nine months of 2017 dropped by 6.6%, i.e. 25,140 reported accidents against 26,926 in the same period in 2016.

The reported occupational accidents are divided as follows: 1,609 commuting accidents and 23,531 workplace accidents, said Director of the medical inspection and security at work at the National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM) Rafik Dakhli.

Fatal occupational accidents also edged down by 12%, he specified, i.e. 90 fatal occupational accidents till September against 102 recorded in the same period in 2016. These accidents are divided between 74 fatal workplace accidents and 16 commuting ones, the same source added.

Fatal occupational accidents are notably recorded in construction and public works sites, the same source indicated.

As regards the occupational diseases reported to the regional and local centres of CNAM, a by 12.4% decrease was also recorded in the last nine months of 2017, against 1,194 cases recorded in 2016 and 1,046 in 2017.

As part of the interventions of the CNAM to promote professional health and security, Dakhli specified out that the fund’s prevention engineers conducted some 2,000 interventions up to October in various sectors.

These interventions in matters of protection against occupational accidents were welcomed in the different establishments.
