Number of people taken into custody in corruption case in Manouba rises to 11

The number of people taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in a case of financial and administrative corruption in Manouba has increased to 11, after two more individuals were arrested.

The case concerns granting collective taxi permits from 2011 to 2019, a security source told TAP.

The suspects were heard Saturday by the Public Prosecutor who decided to extend their detention period by 48 hours for further investigation.

Several officials, including two former governors, a former secretary-general and two executives in the governorate of Manouba as well as two members of the local union of collective taxi are suspected of corruption in this case.

The suspicions relate to a network granting fake driving and taxi licenses, as well as suspicions of corruption and blackmail offences.
