Accra: Dr Fred Kyei Asamoah, the Member of Parliament for Offinso North Constituency in the Ashanti Region, has inaugurated a 'FIFA' standard Astro-turf facility in the constituency. The MP highlighted the significance of the artificial pitch, which includes floodlights and other facilities to host night matches at Akumadan, as a means to develop and nurture football talents in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the inauguration ceremony coincided with the 2025 edition of the annual 'Anidaso Easter Gala', an initiative of Dr Asamoah. The MP expressed that the facility would spur the development of football and sports in general in the region. He emphasized the presence of significant football talent in the area and the need to cultivate these talents in the youth, providing them with opportunities to advance their lives.
Dr Asamoah projected that in the next five years, the area should be able to produce quality players who will participate in both local and international leagues. With its auxiliary facilities, the artificial pitch is capable of hosting both local and international matches.
A total of 14 male and female teams from the five zones of Akumadan, Afrancho, Nkenkensu, Daaso-Nkwaakwaa, and Nsenua competed in the four-day gala matches. At the conclusion of the matches, Akumadan Faith Young Boys and Akumadan Ladies from the Akumadan Zone emerged victorious in the male and female categories, respectively.
Both winning teams were awarded trophies, medals, and undisclosed sums of money. Additionally, all participating teams and some deserving players received various packages from the MP.
