Olive oil production estimated at 240,000 in 2021/2022 campaign

Olive oil production is estimated at 240,000 tonnes in 2021/2022 campaign, up 100,000 tonnes compared with the last season.
These figures may be revised up or down, depending on weather conditions in October.

The final olive production for the 2020/2021 season reached 700 thousand tonnes, for an olive oil production of 140 thousand tonnes, down 65% over the 2019/2020 season.
According to statistical data obtained from the Directorate General of Agricultural Production at the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, purchases of olive groves started at a slow pace, due to bad weather conditions, with current prices estimated at 1.2 dinars per kilo expected to rise following depletion of stocks in Tunisia and growing world demand.

Regarding the progress of the export season, available statistical data show that the volume of exports, which started in November 2020, reached nearly 178 thousand tonnes valued at 1,450 MD until late July 2021, including 22 thousand tonnes of packaged olive oil worth 258 MD.
The Ministry of Agriculture foresees an export of 180 thousand tonnes of olive oil late in October 2021 for a total amount of 1500 MD, knowing that olive oil prices have increased at the end of the season by an estimated value of 7.770 dinars per kg of oil in bulk and 11.728 dinars for the kilo of packaged oil.
