The local olive oil production will exceed 150 thousand tons in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid during the 2021-2022 agricultural season, Moufida Kadri, head of department at the Local Agricultural Development Authority (CRDA) stated to TAP.
The storage capacity in the region stands at 12,205 tons, including 1,800 tons stored at the National Olive Oil Board of Tunisia, 9,247 tons in private oil mills and 1,158 tons at the State Lands Office (OTD).
The olive harvest season will start on October 20, 2021.
Olive groves in the governorate account for 50% of cultivable land and 87% of land dedicated to fruit trees. They cover 284 ha, 6 ha of which are irrigated, or 11 million olive trees.
