Opening show of Francophonie Summit: celebration of diversity and openness

A solemn opening show of the Francophonie Summit was held on Saturday evening at the Open Air Theatre of Djerba, with attendance of President of the Republic Kais Saied and his spouse, Prime Minister Najla Bouden and Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) Louise Mushikiwabo.

Members of the government, representatives of the diplomatic corps and members of particiapting delegations were also among attendees.

The music heritage of the island came under spotlight during the one-hour performance along with the diverse cultures of French-speaking countries.

A performance by a local folklore group was given before the musicians of the Tunisian Symphony Orchestra took the stage. Armenian duduk player Lévon Minassian then stole the spotlight.

The show was an ode to the island of Djerba and Tunisia in its diversity and a symbol of openness towards others.
