Oti Region Celebrates World Tourism Day with Tree Planting at Dream Village


Accra: The Oti Region marked World Tourism Day with a meaningful tree planting ceremony at Dream Village, a pioneering agricultural tourism initiative. The event brought together stakeholders, hoteliers, and members of school tourist clubs from the Oti Senior High Technical as well as the Yabram Community Day School, to discuss the importance of sustainable tourism practices and their role in shaping the future of the industry.



According to Ghana News Agency, the event was held on the theme: ‘Sustainable Tourism Transform,’ emphasizing the importance of environmentally friendly practices in the tourism industry. The participants were encouraged to plant trees and learn about the importance of preserving the environment for future generations.



Madam Roberta Okine Fumador, the Acting Regional Director of GTA, stressed the importance of reducing environmental impact, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting local economies. She also highlighted the implementation of energy-saving measures, water conservation practices, and promoting local community engagement as essential for sustainable tourism.



She encouraged the school tourist club members to educate their peers to participate in local conservation efforts and develop innovative solutions for sustainable tourism. Students and representatives from various institutions have expressed their enthusiasm and readiness to promote tourism in the Oti Region.



Dream Village, founded by Mama village, serves as a thriving agricultural community and tourism hub, offering agricultural education, tourism experiences, and community development opportunities. The Oti Region’s rich cultural heritage and natural attractions, such as Kyabobo National Park and the Hanging Village of Shiare, make it an attractive destination for sustainable tourism.



Representatives from Senior High Schools, hotels, guest houses, and the Oti Regional Coordinating Council (ORCC) attended the 2025 World Tourism Day held at Dambai at Dream Village.
