Outstanding public debt up 12.2% to 101.2 billion dinars at end of August

The outstanding public debt reached nearly 101.2 billion dinars at the end of August 2021, against 90.2 billion dinars during the same period last year, up 12.2%, according to data released by the Ministry of Finance (Provisional results of the execution of the State Budget) Saturday.

The outstanding domestic debt is 41 billion dinars, while that external debt’s is about 60.2 billion dinars.57% of the outstanding external debt is contracted under multilateral cooperation agreements, 25.9% from the financial market and 17.2% under bilateral cooperation agreements.

62.7% of this external debt is contracted in euros, 20% in dollars, 10.5% in Japanese yen and 6.9% in other foreign currencies.

The Finance Department also reported that public debt servicing has risen by 34%, until the end of August 2021, to 10.2 billion dinars, from 7.6 billion dinars, in the same period last year.

In the same upward trend, the repayment of the debt principal has increased by 49%, from 5.1 billion dinars to 7.6 billion dinars in the period August 2020-August 2021.

As for the repayment of interest, it remained almost stable at 2.5 billion dinars.
