Over 42MD to finance 26 projects in regional development zones (January 2018)

In January 2018, the Agency for the Promotion of Industry and Innovation (APII) granted an investment premium under regional development to 26 projects for a total investment of 42.1 MD, compared with 12 projects (for a total investment of 11MD) in the same period in 2017.

According to the agency, these projects will create 597 jobs, compared to 266 jobs in January 2017.

The investment premium granted reached 7.1 MD against 2.2 MD in January 2017, an increase of 221.8%.

Reported investments in the regional development zones recorded a rise of 217.1% to 247.5 MD, against 78.1 MD in January 2017. The share of these zones in all the governorates went from 38.3% to 60.7% in January 2018, says the same source.

APII explained that this increase in the regional development zones is mainly attributable to the governorate of Gafsa whose investments reached 21.8 MD, against 3.9 MD in January 2017, mainly following the declaration in January 2018 of the extension of an automotive cable manufacturing unit for 14.0 MD and the declaration of the creation of a plaster manufacturing unit for 6.5 MD.

Similarly, reported investments in the governorate of Zaghouan rose from 4.9 MD to 79.4 MD, says the APII, adding that this increase is mainly due to the declaration in January 2018 of the creation of a sand treatment unit for an amount of 12 MD and the declaration of a glue cement manufacturing unit for 12 MD.

The same is true for the regional development zone of the Sfax governorate where investments edged up from 2.8 MD to 47.9 MD in January 2018, mainly following the declaration of the extension of a unit for manufacturing corrugated board packaging worth 15 MD and to the declaration of the extension of a unit for manufacturing printing paper worth 10MD.

Reported investments in the governorate of Beja registered an increase of 15.1% in January 2018 (27.4 MD against 23.8 MD), notably following the declaration of the creation of a unit to produce haemodialysis filters worth 20.0 MD.

Ditto for regional development in the governorate of Medenine, in which investments reached 13.2 MD, against 0.8 MD in January 2017, mainly following the declaration in January 2018 of the creation of a unit for manufacturing cement works worth 6.0 MD.

Reported investments in the governorate of Tozeur edged up by 315.8% in January 2018 (7.9 MD against 1.9 MD during the same period in 2017).
