Jomaa On Official Visit in Washington, DC April 2-4

Tunis — Interim Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa will pay, April 2-4, an official visit in the United States of America (USA) at the invitation of American President Barack Obama.

PM Mehdi Jomaa will meet during his visit several officials of the American administration and the American congress, as well as businessmen.

He will deliver a speech in one of the most important American research centre.

In a statement released public Friday evening, a copy of which was received by TAP news agency, the Prime Ministry underlined that this visit will provide the occasion to underline the solidity of the relations binding the two countries and emphasise the joint will to boost co-operation and diversify its aspects.

The visit will also be an occasion “to examine means to energise co-operation and partnership between the two countries in this transitional stage in order to help Tunisia achieve success of its democratic transition process,” the same source underlines.

Besides, a first session of the Tunisian-American strategic dialogue will be launched on the occasion of this visit which constitutes according to the statement, “a propitious framework to discuss the different niches of co-operation on the basis of a strategic vision which contributes to bolstering bilateral relations and hoist them to the level of the two countries’ aspirations.

Preparations for Tunisia’s Participation in Arab Summit

Carthage — Preparations for Tunisia’s participation in the Arab Summit, from March 25 to 26 in Kuwait, was the focus of President Moncef Marzouki’s meeting on Friday with Foreign Minister Mongi Hamdi and Secretary of State to Foreign Affairs Faycal Gouia, a presidency statement reads.

The meeting also discussed the working sessions scheduled on the sidelines of the Summit between Tunisian and Kuwaiti officials.

The meetings will focus on means to attract Kuwaiti investors to fund development projects in Tunisia, notably in matters of infrastructure, and boost bilateral economic co-operation.

The 25th Arab Summit will look at the joint Arab action and the latest developments in the region.

Ben Jaafar At 98th Session of Venice Commission

Tunis — President of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) Mustapha Ben Jaafar Saturday will take part, as guest of honour, in the 98th session of the European Commission for Democracy through Law better known as the Venice Commission, a NCA press release indicated on Friday.

Ben Jaafar will present the Tunisian Constitution and outline what remains of the democratic transition process.

He will also discuss with members of the European Commission for Democracy through Law means to consolidate cooperation between the Assembly and this advisory body of the Council of Europe, the press release further said.

The Venice Commission, which seeks to underpin democracy through the development of law, lent support to Tunisia’s constitutional process by offering its expertise and attending hearing sessions of the NCA commissions, the Assembly specified.
