Pak-Africa Friendship Day was celebrated by the Embassy of Pakistan on June 26, 2021 in Gammarth (Tunis Northern province).
The event was attended by representatives of the Tunisian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, official guests from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Municipality of Tunis and Gammarth and civil society and media representatives.
In his remarks on the occasion, Chief Guest Riadh Essid, Director General of the America Asia-Pacific Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tunisians Abroad, Republic of Tunisia, recalled the valuable support provided by Pakistan for Tunisia’s independence and since then collaboration and cooperation between the two countries has been increasing.
He pointed out in this regard, that the 3rd Session of Bilateral Political Consultations had been held in the course of this year, and that Minister of Foreign Affairs Othman Jerandi is expected to pay a visit to Pakistan to co-chair the 10th Session of the Joint Ministerial Commission, scheduled to be held in Islamabad in October 2021.
Taking the floor on the occasion, Charge d’ Affaires (a.i.) of Pakistan to Tunisia Shafiq Ahmed affirmed that Pakistan is willing to develop trade with Tunisia, considered a «Gateway to Africa,» and is keen on establishing triangular cooperation between Tunisia-Pakistan and third African countries.
He Indicated in this regard, that Pakistan’s diplomacy had shifted focus from geo-politics to geo-economics, noting that the new vision of transformed Pakistan was centered on economic security.
He further said that the great potential for economic opportunities in Africa has been tapped through the Government’s “Engage Africa Initiative,» aimed to step up trade, investment and economic interaction with African countries.
