Parliament: 125 articles of draft code on local authorities passed so far

The House of People’s Representatives (HPR) passed at a plenary session Thursday articles from 97 to 125 of the draft organic law on the code of local authorities by majority vote, bringing the total number of articles adopted to 125.

The compromise committee met all Wednesday to reach consensus on contentious points and to speed up the process of adoption of the various articles of the draft law.

Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) Mohamed Ennaceur said the parliamentary blocs are committed to adopting the draft code on local authorities before the next municipal elections.

The code on local authorities has more than 392 articles. Its plenary discussion comes in anticipation of the municipal elections, scheduled for May 6, 2018.

In the absence of a quorum, Thursday’s plenary session was adjourned by Second Vice-President of Parliament Faouzia Ben Fodha before the review of Article 126.

It will resume on Friday at 9am.
