Parliament passes 2018 budget of Interior Ministry

The budget of the Ministry of the Interior for the year 2018 was adopted Thursday at a plenary session of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), with a majority of 127 votes for, 8 abstentions and a single opposition.

The budget of the Interior Department for the year 2018 amounts to 2,879.083 million dinars against 2,557.156 million dinars in 2017, up 12.6%.

Responding to questions from MPs, Interior Minister Lotfi Braham said his department had acquired some 3,500 vehicles assigned to transport at an estimated cost of 140 million dinars between 2015 and 2016.

For the year 2018, a sum of 122 million dinars will be mobilised for the acquisition of security equipment against 164 million dinars in 2017 and 185 million dinars in 2016, he added.

In the same vein, the minister stressed that his department will mobilise the necessary financial means for the development of 19 border posts, i.e. an amount of 12 million dinars.

In addition, the minister pointed out that 560 complaints against law enforcers have reached the department.

These complaints were filed by individuals or human rights organisations, he said.
