Parliament: review of proposed amendments to code on local authorities completed

The Compromise Committee of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR), on Monday, finished off the review of the proposed amendments to the draft organic law on the code of local authorities, said Mohamed Ennaceur Jbira, chairman of the committee on the organisation of the Administration and the Affairs of the Armed Forces.

Speaking to TAP, he added that the committee is currently examining the additional articles proposed by MPs and the initiating party, before later considering the 23 articles that were not approved at the plenary session dedicated to the review of the code on local authorities.

When examining the district amendment proposals (16 proposals), the focus was on the difficulty of identifying the contours of these districts and studying their economic, social and security aspects.

Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Committee Besma Jebali (Ennahdha) said Saturday it is likely that the draft code on the local authorities be adopted in the course of this week.

“In case there are no disputes around some of its articles, the draft organic law on the code on local authorities could probably be adopted during this week,” she told TAP.

The Compromise Committee has managed to rule on most of the amendment proposals.

The Parliament has so far reviewed 297 articles of the draft code on local authorities.
