Parliament starts review of draft code on local authorities

The House of People’s Representatives (HPR), on Tuesday afternoon, began plenary discussion of the draft Code on Local Authorities.

The plenary is chaired by parliament speaker Mohamed Ennaceur, in the presence of Minister of Environment and Local Affairs Riadh Mouakher and Secretary of State Chokri Belhassan.

Speaking to TAP, chair of the committee of the Organisation of Administration and Armed Forces Affairs Mohamed Naceur Jbira reported a compromise around 130 amendment proposals of the code on local authorities.

“The compromise committee, meeting since last Thursday, has so far decided on 130 proposals for amendment of the code on local authorities,” he said, adding that Tuesday’s meeting will be devoted to reviewing 57 articles, on which there were consensus among committee members.

Naceur Jbira said Tuesday’s meeting focused on the proposed amendments submitted by the initiating party of the project namely the Ministry of Environment and Local Affairs.
