“Parliamentary blocs pledge to adopt draft code on local authorities before upcoming municipal polls,” says Ennaceur

“The parliamentary blocs have pledged to adopt the draft code on local authorities before the upcoming municipal elections,” Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) Mohamed Ennaceur said Wednesday afternoon.

The Parliamentary Committee on the Organisation of the Administration and Armed Forces Affairs, tasked with examining the code, has spared no effort since the beginning of the debates on that draft to better arrange the amendment and addition proposals and to reach consensus around them, he added at the opening of the meeting of the compromise committee dedicated to the review of that bill.

Ennaceur said the plenary session has so far adopted 88 articles and reached Article 111 of the draft organic law.

He also stated that he will draw the attention of the chairpersons of the parliamentary groups to the duty of assiduousness of MPs and the refusal of unjustified absences.

The House of People’s Representatives will meet on Thursday morning to continue the review of the draft organic law No. 2017-48 relating to the Code on Local Government.
