Parliamentary electoral committee examines seven files of candidates for Constitutional Court.

The parliamentary electoral committee examined Tuesday 7 files of the candidates for the parliamentary groups to the Constitutional Court. Other files will be examined on Wednesday.

Three cases were accepted into the category of legal specialists (two lawyers, one magistrate). An incomplete file from a non-legal candidate was refused. In the legal specialty category, a candidate’s file was not accepted. Two other files were filed for non-compliance and incomplete file.

According to chairman of the committee Badreddine Abdelkefi, the examination of the candidature files was submitted to the committee by the Presidency of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR). He added that, in implementation of Articles 8 and 9 of the Organic Law establishing the Constitutional Court concerning the conditions for applying to this judicial body, the chairpersons of groups were invited to communicate the files of their candidates.

The Constitutional Court is composed of 12 members for a single term of 9 years. The President of the Republic, the President of the HPR and the Supreme Council of the Judiciary each propose 4 candidates, three quarters of whom must be specialists in law.
