Takoradi: The Western Regional office of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) is undertaking repair works on some damaged sections on the Nkroful/Kojokrom stretch of the road network to ease vehicular traffic. Repairs would also be carried out on the Abosso and Beposo road that has developed deep potholes.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, who inspected the progress of work done so far, said the specific areas undergoing the repairs had become risky for both motorists and pedestrians who plied the road. He stated, "Some sections of this highway have developed some serious potholes that pose a great danger to motorists and also impede free flow of traffic which I think needed some immediate response from us."
The Minister emphasized the importance of the road to economic activities along the West African sub-region, making the repair of its deplorable portions crucial. "So, I took a decision to engage with the Ghana Highway Authority about how we could do something about this and thankfully they offered to help us to deal with this challenge that has been a bane to motorists on this road," Mr. Nelson added. He commended the GHA for the good job done so far and urged them to complete the repairs within the specified timeline. He also expressed gratitude to some quarrying companies for providing the materials needed for the work.
Engineer Emmanuel Kwesi Rockson, the Western Regional GHA Maintenance Manager, reported that the work was ongoing smoothly and assured the Western Regional Minister that they would work to meet the set deadlines. He noted that the completed repair works would help prevent road accidents, breakdown of heavy-duty vehicles, and heavy vehicular traffic among other challenges on the Takoradi-Cape Coast highway.
