PDL activists end hunger strike

President of the Free Destourian Party (PDL) Abir Moussi, on Sunday, announced the end of the hunger strike the party’s activists have staged, since May 7, in front of the Tunisian branch of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS).

Faced with supporters of the PDL, who had gathered in large numbers in front of the Tunis office of the IUMS, Abir Moussi said members of her party “will not lift the sit-in they have observed for five months.

The sit-in will be lifted once the decision to close the office of the Union is announced and its assets frozen,” she said.

She called for “expediting an investigation into foreign funding” and “to register the president of Ennahdha, Rached Ghannouchi, on the list of people supporting terrorism.

Moussi said it is first necessary to “clean up the electoral climate” and “uproot the Muslim brothers” and “suspicious organisations” in order to be able to hold a referendum and establish a new Republic.

The President of the Republic has ignored the claims of Tunisians and imposed the policy of fait accompli to serve his own project, she pointed out, adding there are briefly “his fatal errors.”

PDL activists, already staging in sit-in outside the seat of UISM, on May 7 began a collective hunger strike to “free the country from the obscurantist octopus” and demand that the authorities assume their responsibility
