Peak of 3,699 MW in electricity demand, Tuesday at 02.00 p.m.

Electricity demand reached a peak of 3,699 MW on Tuesday at 02.00 p.m., a source from the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (STEG) said to TAP, adding that this peak is due to excessive use of air conditioners in view of the heat wave.

Maximum temperatures vary between 36 and 40 degrees in eastern coast regions and between 40 and 45 degrees in the rest of the country, with sirocco win.

According to STEG, it is preferable to use air conditioners at administrations and homes in rational degrees, by adjusting the level of air conditioning to 26 degrees, while avoiding the use of other electrical appliances (washing machines …) during peak periods of electricity consumption and use these devices overnight.

The maximum demand for electricity is estimated during this summer season at 3,900 MW, according to STEG CEO Moncef Harabi.

The STEG’s intervention margin will be limited, if electricity demand continues, wishing not to exceed the projected consumption peak of about 3,900 MW.
