Kasseh: The Pentecost Preparatory School, located in Kasseh within the Ada East District, has conducted a clean-up exercise in the local township as part of its ongoing environmental care campaign initiative. The effort was organized by the Church of Pentecost, Kasseh District, in partnership with Pentecost Social Services (PENTSOS).
According to Ghana News Agency, the primary goal of the exercise was to remove waste from various parts of the township, including gutters, the lorry station, and health facilities. The initiative saw active participation from students, teachers, and local residents, demonstrating a strong community commitment to maintaining a clean environment.
Mr. Henry Daaruzie Naab, the headmaster of Pentecost Preparatory School, emphasized the need for Zoomlion Company Limited to regularly empty the community refuse container, which has been overflowing as residents continue to deposit garbage on the ground. He suggested that instead of relocating the container, as some residents have proposed, it should be properly maintained, and the community should avoid discarding waste on the floor.
Miss Peace Agbobalah, a student at the school, voiced her concerns regarding the health risks posed by the waste container, which is situated in close proximity to the school kitchen and eatery. She pointed out the danger of flies potentially spreading diseases from the waste to their food, posing a serious health threat.
Additionally, she acknowledged the efforts of Zoomlion workers but noted that issues with their salaries were hindering their ability to work effectively. She appealed to authorities to ensure better remuneration for these workers to encourage more diligent efforts in maintaining environmental cleanliness.
Miss Annabel Akufo Zotorvie, another student, expressed her frustration over the inability to enjoy meals peacefully due to the stench emanating from the container. Residents also reported to Ghana News Agency that the waste container’s presence has led to the closure of some local shops, affecting businesses and making life challenging for the community.
