Phosphate production under 160 thousand tonnes since beginning of 2018

The phosphate production has not exceeded 160,000 tonnes since the beginning of 2018, against 500,000 tonnes during the same period in 2017, TAP learned from the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG).

The drop in production is due to the paralysis in the activity of the CPG’s different units in the mining basin delegations of Metlaoui, Redeyef, Mdhilla and Om Larayes where tensions flared up following the announcement by the CPG on January 20, 2018, of the results of the 4th part of the recruitment competition of the total of 1,700 executing agents.

Since then, tents have been set up everywhere on the company’s sites by protestors claiming jobs.
