Phosphates: 2.7 million tonnes produced by CPG since January

Marketable phosphate produced by the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG) has reached 2.7 million tonnes, from January to Mid-October

2021.

These quantities were produced in the CPG sites of Metlaoui, Kef Eddour, Mdhilla and Om Laarayes. None were produced in the Redeyef unit where production has been suspended for a year, causing an estimated shortfall of 400 thousand tonnes of phosphate.

The quantities of phosphate produced since the beginning of the year fell 23% compared to the projections of the CPG, which was counting on a production volume of 3.4 million tonnes during the first ten months and 5 million tonnes at the end of 2021, the head of production at the Company told TAP.

CPG customers, among chemical fertiliser producers, have so far purchased 2.6 million tonnes of phosphate.

Social demands by job seekers, translated into repeated sit-ins had blocked phosphate production in the sites of Metlaoui, Mdhilla and Om Laarayes, particularly during the first quarter of the year, the same source added.
