Pink October: Nearly four thousand beneficiaries of mobile health caravan across regions

The services of the health caravan (the pink train) which toured the governorates of Sfax, Sidi Bouzid and Gafsa on October 29, 30 and 31, 2021, benefited about four thousand citizens, Advisor to the Health Minister Ines Gmati said.

In a statement Tuesday to TAP, the official pointed out that the success achieved by this caravan dedicated to breast cancer screening and boosting vaccination against the cororonavirus has prompted the Health Ministry to schedule a similar caravan in other medical specialties that will travel to a number of the country’s interior regions in the coming days.

The pink train had conducted 1,617 vaccinations and 41 rapid tests, two of which has turned out positive, as well as more than 1,400 clinical breast cancer screenings, 266 of which had been diagnosed by ultrasound, Gmati indicated.

She added that 32 suspected cases of cancer had been sent to public and private sector health institutions for mammography, adding that the Health Ministry would follow up on the different stages of their treatment.

Gmati further stated that 906 diabetes and blood pressure tests had also been carried out, commending the huge efforts exerted by the medics and paramedics during this health campaign.

The Pink Train campaign was organised by the Health Ministry in coordination with the Primary Health Care Directorate, the National Office for Family and Population (ONFP), the National Tunisian Railway Company (SNCFT) and a number of civil society organisations as part of the Pink October observance.
