Kumasi: The Ashanti Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended three armed robbers who have been causing distress among residents of the Kenyasi community in the Kwabre East District. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo from the Public Affairs Unit revealed during a media briefing at the Regional Police Headquarters that the suspects, Umar Issah, 26, Sherif Mohammed, 20, and Abdul Jalelu, 19, were captured on Thursday, May 8, following a daylight robbery in Kenyasi.
According to Ghana News Agency, the suspects, each riding a separate motorbike, executed a robbery where they snatched mobile phones from two individuals around 1:00 p.m. The Kenyasi Police Patrol Team, acting promptly on intelligence, intercepted and detained the robbers shortly after the incident. During the chase, Sherif Mohammed was shot in the right rib, and the other two suspects also sustained injuries. They are currently under medical care at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) under strict security. The stolen mobile phones and motorbikes used in the robbery have been retrieved and are held as evidence for further investigations.
In another operation, the Airport District Police Command detained a 29-year-old suspect, Adam Mohamed, for his alleged involvement in narcotics trafficking. This arrest took place on Saturday, May 10, 2025, around 22:00 hours during a targeted police operation in Aboabo No. 1, aimed at curbing drug trafficking in the area. Officers found significant quantities of controlled drugs during a search of the suspect's premises, including 35 packs of 250mg Tramadol, 28 packs of 120mg Tramadol, and 11 packs of 225mg Tramadol. Additionally, GHS 66,950.00 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales, was seized. The suspect remains in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations, and all exhibits are securely stored for legal proceedings.
In a significant development, the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) captured Michael Owusu Ansah, known as Baby Last, who had been evading capture since 2016 for the murder of Police Officer G/Cpl Frank Essel during a robbery at the Open Space Hotel in Denchemuoso. DSP Ahianyo stated that Owusu Ansah confessed to several robberies in Denchemuoso, Atwima-Techiman, and Asuoyeboah. His arrest led to the capture of four more suspects: Emmanuel Owusu, alias Cassidy; Maxwell Gyimah, alias Nana Kwame; Sudais Oxford Ntiamoah, alias The Man Sudais; and Rhano Okyere, alias Demon. A fifth accomplice, identified only as Abedi, remains at large. The suspects were arraigned before the Atasomanso Circuit Court on May 13 and were remanded into custody, with their next court appearance set for June 4, 2025.
