Accra: Mr Mohammed Judah, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has called on Community Police Assistants and Fire Service Assistants in the Tema West Municipality to work together to ensure safety in the area. He emphasized that collaboration is crucial for the success of the initiative within the municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Judah made these remarks during an event where the YEA and the Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) introduced a total of 75 assistants, including 32 community police assistants and 39 fire service assistants. Mr Judah noted the lack of cooperation between the two groups, cautioning that this division would hinder the municipality’s development objectives. He stressed the importance of unity for the overall benefit of the community and the nation.
The assistants have received appropriate training and are expected to support their respective officials in fulfilling their duties while ensuring the municipality’s safety. Mr Judah advised them to follow instructions and demonstrate resilience, reminding them that their salaries come from taxpayers’ money. He warned that negative reports could impact their future employment opportunities in the sector.
Mr Judah also mentioned ongoing discussions between the YEA and the government about potentially recruiting trained youth employment agency personnel under the police and fire assistance program when vacancies arise. He outlined that the assistantship program is a collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and the youth ministry to provide training and employment for the youth.
Furthermore, Mr Judah urged fire assistants to regularly educate the community on fire safety, while encouraging police assistants to gather intelligence on criminal activities to aid in crime prevention. Mr Ludwig Teye Totimeh, the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive, reminded the assistants to respect the roles of professional firefighters and police officers.
