Possible meeting with signatories of Carthage Document to evaluate government’s action (Chahed)

Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said on Tuesday that it is possible that a meeting with the signatories of the Carthage Document will be held in the coming weeks to assess the government’s action.

This meeting will see to what extent the government has succeeded in achieving the various clauses of the document, he added in a statement to the media on the sidelines of a national symposium on “Employment and disability: Towards the activation of trilateral co-operation between the public sector, the private sector and civil society,” organised by the Ministry of Training and Employment.

In another connection, the PM considered that a “ministerial reshuffle normally occurs after an evaluation of the government’s work and not change to change,” pointing out that the decision to carry out a cabinet reshuffle falls under the prerogatives of the Premier.

He explained that the government is working in compliance with the Carthage Document and is determined to implement its clauses, including fight against terrorism and corruption, the achievement of the objectives of development and good governance of public finance, stressing that the political parties that signed this document are also called upon to support the government and evaluate its work.

Youssef Chahed also said that the government will work to deal with all the problems faced with and to constantly monitor its working method.

He recalled that the government members will be in the parliament on Thursday to discuss the anti-corruption strategy during a plenary session.

On his visit to the United States, Chahed pointed to the United States’ constant support to the Tunisian experience, underlining that Tunisia is endeavouring to consolidate and diversify fields of economic co-operation between the two countries and to develop bilateral investment through the organisation of a forum of businessmen in Tunisia at the end of 2017, in addition to the development of co-operation in combating terrorist groups threatening the Tunisian democratic experience.
