Presentation of studies on implementation of UN Resolution 1325 in Tunisia (CREDIF)

The results of studies on the mapping of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) working in the field of Women Peace and Security in Tunisia (French: FPS) and on the state of play of the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution (UNSCR) 1325 in Tunisia, were the subject of a debate workshop held Thursday at the Centre for Research, Study, Documentation and Information on Women (CREDIF).

Funded by the Government of the Republic of Finland, these two studies are part of strengthening the Tunisian women’s leadership and preparations of the national action plan on the UNSCR 1325 in Tunisia expected in 2018, said official in charge of National Programme UN Women Tunisia Hela Skhiri.

“The reolution 1325 lays down the security of women as a principal indicator of peace and security and calls on concerned public actors to adopt a gender mainstreaming approach in legislation, policies or programmes in all sectors and levels,” she said, stressing that the two proposed studies constitute “basic information” for the steering committee for the development of the national action plan on UNSCR 1325.

In her presentation of the study on the mapping of CSOs working in the field of FPS, expert Asma el Costantini indicated that 86 associations working on women’s issues had taken part in this survey and presented their actions and projects on 4 axes of the resolution 1325 (prevention, participation, protection, relief operations and recovery efforts).

According to the report, (50%) associations work for the protection of women, (26%) for prevention, (25%) for the participation of women, (7%) are interested in relief and recovery and (4%) respondents are interested in more than one axis of the resolution 1325.

The debate was attended by the Women, Family and Children Minister Naziha Laabidi, Finnish Ambassador to Tunisia Tanja Jaaskelainen, CREDIF Director Dalenda Largueche as well as representatives of civil society, public institutions, international organisations and academics.
