Accra: President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on corporate entities in Ghana to invest in the development of armwrestling, celebrating the sport's achievements and its potential for national development during a meeting with the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF). According to Ghana News Agency, President Akufo-Addo praised the GAF for its significant contributions to sports in Ghana, particularly highlighting the federation's success in positioning Ghanaians in international armwrestling roles and securing numerous medals since 2016. The President emphasized that the sport exemplifies vital societal values such as discipline, perseverance, and teamwork, and applauded the federation for its role during the African Games. "The GAF deserves commendation for its tireless efforts especially for saving Ghana during the African Games," President Akufo-Addo remarked. He stressed the importance of nurturing armwrestling to benefit the youth and the nation, urging corporate and multinational institutions to support or partner with the GAF through sponsorships of development programs and participation in competitions. President Akufo-Addo specifically commended Charles Osei Asibey, President of the GAF, for his leadership and the dynamic growth of the sport under his tenure. He also acknowledged Grace Minta for her exceptional performance and ambassadorial role in armwrestling's success. In response, Charles Osei Asibey thanked the President for his support, stating that the GAF aims to make armwrestling a household name and the sport of choice in Ghana. He expressed gratitude towards the government and various corporate sponsors, including SES HD Plus Ghana, Kofikrom Pharmacy Limited, and Twellium Industries among others, for their contributions to the sport's development. The meeting also addressed the future of armwrestling in Ghana, with plans to establish a dedicated training center and a secretariat for Africa in Accra. The sports minister has been tasked to collaborate with the GAF to maximize armwre stling's potential for national development. Distinguished attendees at the meeting included the Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Opare, Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon.
