President Caid Essebsi meets Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi

Special Correspondent Houda Hammami) – President Beji Caid Essebsi received, on Wednesday afternoon, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, on the sidelines of the 28th Arab Summit held near the Dead Sea in Jordan.

The Head of State spoke of the historic relations between the two countries and welcomed the impetus they are currently experiencing, Minister Delegate to the Presidency of the Republic Abdelkrim El Hirmi told TAP.

He also said President Caid Essebsi has stressed Tunisia’s support to Iraq in its fight against terrorism, in particular.

For his part, the Iraqi Prime Minister welcomed the recovery of pace of bilateral cooperation, recalling the successful visit of Prime Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui in Baghdad earlier this month.

Regarding the developments in the Arab region, al-Abadi said the deteriorating situation in many Arab countries calls for better co-operation and greater co-ordination at the Arab League in order to overcome differences and disputes and to promote the role of Arab policy-makers internationally.
