“President is conducting consultations to define main lines of next stage” (Jerandi)

President Kais Saied is conducting consultations to ease tension and present a roadmap that defines the main lines of the next stage, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi said on Wednesday.

This will confirm that Tunisia is a democratic state, that is expecting a bright future and a sustainable development with its partners, he told reporters on the fringes of his participation in a national forum to present the report of the National Authority to Combat Trafficking in Persons.

«Tunisia enjoys the credibility and respect of the international community as well as of all United Nations institutions.»

«The President of the Republic has been clear from the beginning about the temporary nature of the state of exception,» he added, saying there is no question of any backtracking in the commitment to the foundations of democratic governance.

«Tunisia has proven to the world its commitment to democracy through all aspects of daily life, the media and civil society,» he indicated, adding «Tunisia is in permanent contact with its partners, brothers and friends at the regional and international levels.»

Jerandi described the talks held during the visit of the Prime Minister to Saudi Arabia as «fruitful.»

«In such talks, we always reassure our partners that Tunisia is going through a sound phase and will remain an active partner.»

On the European Parliament’s motion on the situation in Tunisia, voted on October 21, the FM considered that «several of its aspects do not apply to Tunisia, particularly with regard to women’s rights,» adding «this is not a crisis, but a rectification of the democratic process.»
